We Are Toupe #1634

The International Thespian Society (ITS) is the Educational Theatre Association’s student honorary organization. ITS recognizes the achievements of high school and middle school theatre students. Since 1929, EdTA has inducted more than 2 million Thespians into ITS. That number continues to grow, with more than 36,000 students from around the country being inducted each year. How does ITS work? A school has a Thespian troupe that is led by a troupe director—usually the school’s theatre teacher. Students earn an invitation to be inducted into the Thespian Society. Having a Thespian Society troupe at your school raises the profile and stature of your theatre program, making both your school and community aware of the activities and success of your students. Who are Thespians? Thespian troupes include students in grades 9-12, and Junior Thespian troupes include students in grades 6-8. There are troupes in more than 4,000 high schools and middle schools. A few of our Thespian alumni are famous names from the entertainment industry, including Tom Hanks, Val Kilmer, James Marsters, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Stephen Schwartz. But most alumni are in just about any industry you can imagine and excel using skills they learned as Thespians. BHS is the proud home of Thespian Troupe #1634.

Who are we?

We are Thespian Troupe #1634! We are Beaverton High School's extracurricular drama program. We are advised by Shannon Dery, and headed by a Thespian Council of student leaders. Each year we perform a musical, a One Acts festival, a student directed production, and at least one straight play.

We are involved with ITS and throughout the year attend several festivals, including Regionals and State. There are a couple ways that we rock and roll:

Drama Meetings

Every Thursday we hold drama meetings in room 174, or the Studio Theatre. They cover everything from games, to inner workings, to rehearsals, to festivals, to shirt fees and snack funds. We recommend attending to get information on thespian goings. Check our Facebook for information on what is going on in the next meeting!

Points

Thespians work under thespian points. Points are determined by how many hours you spend in drama. 10 hours is equivalent to 1 point, and achieving different numbers of points gets you different things. For example, 10 points (100 hours) gets you an induction, and 40 points gets you a letter. Points also determine elegibility for State.
